STATION ROSE (Elisa Rose & Gary Danner)   "DIGITAL QUARTER CENTURY - REPORT"

The title says it all, 2013 is a special year. STATION ROSE / Elisa Rose & Gary Danner - Pioneers of Digital Culture - have reached the 25-years as "Digital Quarter Century". Counting in decades is obsolete,now the century unit counts. A quarter of a century ago Elisa Rose (visual artist) & Gary Danner (musician, composer) founded Station Rose in Vienna's 4th district as the first digital public address in Vienna in 1988. This was followed by a long stay in Cairo, then exile in 1991 in Frankfurt and San Francisco. At the same time Station Rose went online, published at Sony Music, among others, worked on a previous version of Facebook in 1995, had its own broadcast on ARDdigital for four years on from 2002, and performed several 100 times live in museums, clubs and festivals. Since 2012 Rose & Danner are back in Vienna. STATION ROSE will talk about the most important stages of her career in words, sounds and images.

Station Rose/STR was founded in Vienna, Austria, in 1988 by Gary Danner (sound) & Elisa Rose (art), after they had finished their studies at the University of Applied Art in Vienna. As one of the first digital groups worldwide STATION ROSE have used the potential of live audio visual media and the internet for performing in their work. Their Gunafa Clubbings were the first AV- and online-clubprojects worldwide (Frankfurt 1992). STR are regarded as pioneers of media art. They had a professorship for media-production at University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt 2002-2004.

Cyberthon/San Francisco, Ars Electronica/Linz, MAK Vienna, Steirischer Herbst, Mousonturm/Frankfurt, Batofar/Paris, in the Techno-Underground in Germany, Transmediale/Berlin, Lentos Museum/Linz, O.K./Linz, Viper/Basel, World Wide Video Festival/Amsterdam, ICA/London, futherfield/London, Kunsthalle Schirn, Städelmuseum/Frankfurt, Cimatics/Brussels, Blasthaus/San Francisco.

STATION ROSE has released on Gunafa, Sony Music, ZYX Music, Mille Plateaux, edition selene, International Deejay Gigolo Records, Crippled Dick Hot Wax, Third Ear, Hatje Cantz, Verlag für moderne Kunst Nürnberg, comfortzone.
In 2012 they opened their contemporary artspace at Museumsquartier, and received the City of Linz Lifetime Award for their artistic work.They showed "Digital Quarter Century - ShelTeR" at this year´s Ars Electronica, and will present "Digital Quarter Century - Patterns & Pleats" at Museumsquartier/Ovalhalle in November.
