Visual Dramaturgy:
During the entire “Anna Sacher” contribution, there have been projections that illuminate both the ship and the tower of the cathedral. The subject of the Sacher Hotel, a pattern that more or less fills the entire hotel from the entrance in the form of wallpaper, floor coverings, curtains, etc., is updated to a digital pattern. This was brought to life in a fictional movement. The freeze that the hotel has experienced since the lockdown (until 18th of May 2021), and which has inevitably occurred over and over again over the years, has been converted into a slow movement. The colors are clearly defined, namely Sacher red, as well as green from the ground, gold and white. The movement of the patterns symbolically brings life back to the abandoned guest house, the empty salon, and the numbness recedes.
Concept - STATION ROSE about Anna Sacher
What makes Anna Sacher so special. The Hotel Sacher is closely connected to the Ringstrasse as the new boulevard of the metropolis of Vienna. The system was still old, with the imperial K&K Kaiserhaus in the lead, but a new time has already been announced. A fresh bourgeois and often Jewish elite were able to buy their way into the center of power, having representative buildings erected by renowned architects of the time in the immediate vicinity of the Hofburg. Also in order to offer a place for exchanging ideas with artists, scientists, etc. in these salons. In retrospect, one could easily see these salons as an analog form of social media.
The Hotel Sacher was the hub for international guests from this cultural environment. As such, it was important. With the death of the owner Eduard Sacher in 1892, his young wife Anna Sacher had to make a decisive decision, namely to rule or to sell. She chose the first solution, and truly built an empire. And was repeatedly confronted with almost unsolvable challenges. Her preference for Jewish guests was almost easy to enforce.
"The year is 1918". The missing guests through and after the First World War were much more difficult for you. Now the heirs of the hotel are facing such a situation again, due to the Corona pandemic, the hotel has been closed for months & guests are missing again.
How will the City of Vienna reposition itself, what will happen next? Are we facing a turning point again and which new system will be implemented now?
