Gary Danner & Elisa Rose met Christoph Tannert in East-Berlin on 28/7/1989, very shortly before the Wall came down.

They there planned to carry out the project "Broiler Project II, Avantgarde in der DDR" together in the Viennese headquarter, on 23/4/1990.

In the summer of 1988, Christoph Tannert gave a lecture on the fermenting circumstances in the GDR at Station Rose shop during his first trip abroad. We decided to continue this event, which had been received with great interest.

Back in the GDR, however, Tannert was banned from leaving the country, so our next meeting took place in East-Berlin, only days before the fall of the Berlin Wall.

A week later Tannert informed us that with the removal of all travel restrictions, nothing would stand in the way of continuing his lectures in the STR, and that he had meanwhile founded the "Branch office of Station Rose in Berlin / GDR".

We are very happy to welcome Christoph Tannert on April 23rd. with all his reports about the new cultural climate in the GDR! After all, it is of special importance for Station Rose-Global-Sprawl-Networking to transfer information to artists & scientists in the East who are like-minded. And do you not agree with Station Rose, that one or even two sparks of the potent revolutionary spirit of the information recipients, on the other hand, could not harm in this country?

The "BROILER * PROGRAM" in detail:

1) Vernissage: April 23, 1990, 7pm. Duration of the exhibition 24.4. - 4.5.1990. Exhibits (pictures, photos, videos, music tapes) that can be seen and heard during Ch. Tannert's 14-day stay in the STR.

2) 3x jour fixe on the following dates: 24.4., 25.4., 2.5./3 p.m. Lecture by Tannert on the situation in the GDR in the fine arts, literature, multimedia and music, as well as the opportunity to contact A-GDR.

* BROILER = GDR chicken that fell from the laying rod due to old age and that is sold in the street as folk foods (roast chicken).

Im Sommer 1988 hielt Christoph Tannert im Zuge seiner 1. Auslandsreise in der Station Rose einen Vortrag über die damals gärenden Umstände in der DDR. Wir beschlossen eine Fortsetzung dieser auf großes Interesse stoßenden Veranstaltung.

Wieder in der DDR wurde jedoch über Tannert Ausreiseverbot verhängt, daher fand unser nächstes Treffen in Ost-Berlin statt, 4 Tage vor dem Fall der Berliner Mauer.

Eine Woche darauf informierte uns Tannert, daß durch den Wegfall aller Ausreisebeschränkungen der Fortsetzung seiner Vorträge in der STR nichts mehr im Wege stünde, und er mittlerweile die "Aussenstelle der Station Rose in Berlin/DDR" gegründet hätte.

Wir freuen uns sehr, Christoph Tannert am 23.4. mit all seinen Berichten über das neue kulturelle Klima in der DDR bei uns zu begrüßen ! Ist es doch für Station Rose-Global-Sprawl-Networking of special importance, Informationen an geistesverwandte Artists & Scientists in den Osten zu transferieren. Und sind Sie nicht einer Meinung mit Station Rose, daß hierzulande ein oder sogar zwei Funken des potenten revolutionären Geistes der Informationsempfänger nicht schaden könnten?

1) Vernissage: 23.4.1990, 19h. Dauer der Ausstellung 24.4. - 4.5.1990. Exponate (Bilder, Fotos, Videos, Musiktapes), die während des 14tägigen Aufenthaltes von Ch. Tannert in der STR zu sehen und zu hören sein werden.

2) 3x Jour Fixe zu folgenden Terminen: 24.4., 25.4., 2.5./15h. Lecture by Tannert zur Situation der DDR in Bildender Kunst, Literatur, Multimedia und Musik, sowie die Möglichkeit zur Kontaktaufnahme A-DDR.

* BROILER = aus Altersschwäche von der Legebatterie gefallenes DDR-Huhn, welches im Gassenverkauf als Volksnahrungsmittel (Brathuhn) seine UpDateVersion erfährt.

They didn´t have to speak Esperanto. From the day artists Elisa Rose and Gary Danner opened their "Station Rose" in Vienna´s fourth district, they were already known in the art scene behind the Iron Curtain. Even before the Wall fell, the moment I was lucky enough to travel to Vienna, I steered my first steps directly to their shop, which at the time was one of the main crossroads of intermedia thinking in Europe. With "Flags and Hymns", the title of their show back then, they guided me through various art scenes while the Vienna Institute for Human Sciences shifted my interests in the radical present toward the politics of culture.

From the very beginning, one looked to "Station Rose" for networking and establish new contacts in every imaginable direction. Without the forging of theories or the formulating of controversial theses, new sensual potentualities were created, felt, perceived, thought, remembered, presented or willed into being before one´s eyes, and/or made audible. Never before had I tested a "mind-machine" or discussed guitar fantasies as representations of life and the world. While other personalities of "net.art", still in its infancy then, frantically defended their territories, thereby solidifying far-reaching misunderstandings, "Station Rose" stood out, front and center, for all-encompassing border-crossing. They left their marks not only on the visual arts but on fashion and music as well. And in every riff, every song, every sound of Gary Danner´s audio palette one hears the passion, an unabashed homage to the history of rock and, at the same time, a willing opennness to the future.
